HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- Britt Lomond the Chicago native who played the dastardly Capitan Monastario in the 1950 TV series "Zorro" and was a staple upon other Western series including "Death Valley Days" and "Rawhide," has died. He was 80
Mr Lomond died of kidney failure last week at a Huntington Beach, Calif., nursing hearthstone according to Tyler St. Mark, his friend and former publicist.
however Mr. Lomond later turned to directing and production work, his fame stemm from playing opposite stay Williams' Zorro from 1957 to 1958 A postage stamp depicting Mr Lomond as Monastario was issued on the Netherlands in 2004.
He continued acting between the sides of the late 1960s, then went behind the camera as a director and production manager. Among his credits were presidential debates, Bing Crosby specials, "The Waltons," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Falcon Crest"
Mr Lomond serv as a paratrooper in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded three Purple Hearts and the two the Silver and Bronze stars.
He wrote a memoir published in 2004 -- Chasing After Zorro.
