After holding preseason camps in Florida, Mexico, California and Mississippi, the Fire finally appoints up shop today at Lake Forest body

Coach Dave Sarachan knows who the 28 players forward his roster will be, if it be not that there are some uncertain ingredients with the Major League Soccer season opener approaching Saturday at FC Dallas (3 pm Ch 7)

After 13 preseason games and scrimmages, Sarachan still isn't unfailing who his starting goaltender will be. Zach Thornton, the starter for principally of the club's first eight seasons, has serious competition from Matt Pickens and David Mahoney.

"I'm not naming one" Sarachan said.

While all three got into ML games last season, the starter figures to be either Pickens or Thornton because Mahoney is listed as individual of the club's 10 designated developmental players.

The Fire's first not many days back in Chicago also will determine whether captain Chris Armas and striker Nate Jaqua will be in the opening day lineup. Armas, recovering from major knee surgery missed the first brace camps and was a neutral (non-contact) player in the third. Jaqua, who earned his first cap with the U national team in January, is recovering from a sprained MCL Oft-injured vindicator Tony Sanneh isn't at satiated strength, either.



This year's roster includes six players chosen in the ML draft in January: forward Calen Carr, midfielders Floyd Franks and Brian Plotkin and pleaders Jeff Curtin, Dasan Robinson and Jordan Russolillo.

It won't include sum of two units younger players on last year's team: former first-round pick Scott Beute and Canadian national-team player Will Johnson The Fire waived Beute and couldn't sign Johnson

"We're disappointed that Will is leaving," president/general manager John Guppy said. "He could have had a bright what may occur hereafter with our club, but he was adamant about securing a senior roster stain as opposed to a developmental slot"

Carr got a senior fault ahead of Johnson. The other five draftees are onward the developmental roster along with Mahoney, upholders Leonard Griffin and Jared Montz midfielder Craig Capano and forward Chad Barrett.

The club's FireWorks for Kids Foundation luncheon kicks most distant the season Tuesday at the Chicago Marriott Downtown. The Fire also will armed force Wednesday's international match between Mexico and Paraguay at Soldier Field.

The Fire's first nine games will be played upon the road as construction is complet in succession Bridgeview Stadium. The first game there is scheduled for June 11
